Did Santa really coin the phrase ‘make a list and check it twice’? I am sure an intrepid event planner or organiser got there before him. Every planner knows that the success of any event lies in the detail and checklisting same at multiple stages pre, during and post the event is imperative. Review, review and review again. Compile new lists, collate old lists, prioritise lists – Why? Because something always falls through the cracks. Don’t panic – this doesn’t have to be a bad thing. In fact it can often be a good thing. It may be new inspiration that demands to be acted on! We personally love the buzz when that lightbulb moment occurs with its ensuing adrenaline rush. Getting creative stuff done! Woohoo! Rocketing entertainment into orbit! BAM!
So how do you plan for those unplanned moments? Have a little red book of go – to people for everything, everywhere. Don’t rely on the internet – these inspirational moments may happen in virgin territory untouched by the world wide web – www is a misnomer in the extremities of our fair isle. Think outside the box and be prepared to change course dramatically to deliver on your inspiration to exceed your clients’ expectation. Be prepared, without warning, to become the Fix-It Superhero! Your skills must range from the ability to rebuild a fragile ego to roofing a barn!
